Where You Live Influences Health and Well-Being Essay

Social science has proven that where you live can influence your health and well-being in either a positive or negative way. Living in poverty and growing up in a deprived neighbourhood has a direct link to various social problems such as a lack of employment opportunities, poor housing conditions, educational problems, lack of amenities, and not feeling safe in your neighbourhood. These disparities are especially prevalent amongst minority communities due to their lower socioeconomic status (CDC), and are happening in our own community. Therefore, I propose that we as a group volunteer our time to raise awareness, combat the negative effects of poverty with the use of outreach and advocacy schemes, and be aware of the possible opposition†¦show more content†¦In addition, minority groups living in America are more likely to face disparities in regards to the following: education, prison sentences, arrests, lower pay, and unemployment (Minority Rights). These issues have rea l, dangerous implications for young people and can affect them throughout their whole life. Elis Cose, a cultural critic, wrote in a column for USA Today, â€Å"Black youngsters are much more likely than whites to be stuck in second-rate schools—or in lower tracks in decent schools—and to face a future of joblessness or marginal employment (Racial Disparities).† Overall, these disparities are highly connected to the unfortunate fact that many live in deprived neighborhoods; and therefore, experience all the social disadvantages that this brings (Crime and Race). Three components—physical, mental, and social—make up health and well-being. Living in poverty can negatively affect all three components (BetterHealth). Poverty is not just about lacking money but is more complex as it can affect everyday living in countless ways. Raising Children in Tomorrows World - 1120 Words

‘Raising children in tomorrow’s world will be more challenging than ever before.’ Discuss. The ancient proverb â€Å"it takes a village to raise a child† illustrates the arduousness of raising children. One’s children are probably the biggest, most uncertain and risky investment in his or her life. Judging by the popularity of self-help books on how to bring up children ‘correctly’, it is evident that many parents are having trouble in child-raising, and are desperately seeking help in it. However, this is not a new phenomenon as parenting troubles have a long history. Today, the problem has manifested in our modern world and parents still face a load of challenges in raising their children and these problems are set to worsen due to the†¦show more content†¦The internet is another source of influence. Children may stumble upon mature content like pornography. Studies have shown that children exposed to mature content at a young age are more likely to grow up being promiscuous themselves. Proper upbringing by parents can make a child le ss likely to be a delinquent later in life. Therefore in this aspect, raising children in tomorrow’s world will be more challenging then before. As modernization and globalization takes place, the standard of living increases and this means that parents will need to dedicate more time to work for a higher pay check. Furthermore, in light of the global recession, parents are likely to work harder to keep their jobs. This limits the time they get to spend with their children which in turn leads to lesser time to teach and guide the children. It may seem ironic that many parents are working so hard to bring home bread and give their children a good life and education but sequentially have no time to spare time when it comes to the upbringing of the children. This shows clearly that parents are fighting a losing battle for the hearts and minds of their children and this situation is likely to worsen as the world progresses economically. Therefore, it can be said that raising chil dren in tomorrow’s world will be more challenging than ever. Ancient history Cartimandua

Question: Discuss about the Ancient history for Cartimandua. Answer: Introduction Cartimandua was the female ruler of a tribe called Brigantes during the time of a Roman emperors organized conquest of Britain. Cartimandua was considered to be a strong ally to the Roman Empire and was described as the queen of the Brigantes in the Annals by the Roman historian named Tacitus. There has been the record of a few number of female leaders in the Roman empire, who were as fierce and strong as Cartimandua. Cartimandua plays a significant role in the capture of Britain by the Romans and hence was known as a strong ally to the Roman empire. The report analyzes the portrayal of Cartimandua in the ancient history and modern perspective based on a number of factors (Highham, 2013). Ancient history analysis In the ancient history, Cartimandua has been described in a negative role due to her personality. As she was loyal to the Roman Empire, she betrayed Caratacus, a British resistance leader, which in turn led to his capture. Caratacus initially sought the protection from Cartimandua, before being betrayed by her. She has been portrayed as an anti-social character in the Roman history due to a large number of negative activities of which she was a part of. She was criticized heavily for her self-indulgence in sexual impropriety of rejecting her husband for a common soldier (Hanson, 2012). She has been defined to be a bad person in the ancient history also because of her betrayal to all of her relatives. Cartimandua seized her brother and relatives to have the full control of the tribe and to support the Roman empire. She betrayed and divorced her husband to replace him with the common soldier named Vellocatus, who was the armor-bearer of Venutius. So all the ancient history mentions of Cartimandua by Tacitus is evil and anti-social (Haselgrove, 2015). Modern perspective analysis Even if Cartimandua has been portrayed in a bad manner in the ancient history, she has been described as a strong and formidable leader in a number of modern perspective version of the Roman history. For example, Barbara Erskine describes Cartimandua as a young princess who went through a lot of twist and turns along with a number of tragedies to become one of the strongest queens in the Roman history. Barbara Erskine wrote a novel named, Daughters of Fire and portrayed Cartimandua as a strong and independent lady, who carved out a success path for herself through a war between Rome and Britain along with a society dominated by the males. She has been portrayed as a feminist and a role model for the display of her courage and her determination to be victorious in all wars fought (Hartley, 2013). George Shipway also described Cartimandua as one of the most important character in his novel Imperial governor, which is based on the success of a Roman general, Gaius Suetonius Paulinus who overcame a number of revolts to maintain the strength of the Roman Empire. Cartimandua has been portrayed as the ally and lover of the Roman general, Gaius Suetonius Paulinus and has been considered to have an important role in the success of the Roman general (Pham, 2014). In almost all of the modern novels, Cartimandua has been portrayed as a shining example of feminism and women empowerment during the Roman Empires quest to capture Britain. She has been compared with other strong female leaders like Boudicca, who was known to be the queen of the Iceni tribe. Conclusion Though both the ancient history and books describe Cartimandua as a fierce leader and also the queen of the Brigantes tribe. The ancient history stresses on her character, whereas the modern depictions describe her achievements. The ancient history portrays Cartimandua portrays her as very self-indulged, greedy and power-hungry. The modern depictions however have described the queen as a strong and formidable leader, who faced many tragedies to find success in a male-dominated society (Arch, 2015). References Arch, D., 2015. To Kill a Mockingbird Scout Essay Example For Students

To Kill a Mockingbird Scout Essay In the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, Scout learns valuable lessons on the evil of prejudice present in her Southern town of Maycomb, on the true nature of courage, and on the dangers of judging others before â€Å"†¦climbing into their skin and walking around in it.† Set in the mid 1930s, Scout Finch is a young girl living with her older brother, Jem, and her lawyer father. Being a kid, Scout has the simple duties of a minor, to have fun and to stay out of trouble. But along the way, she also learns many important things. Although the majority of her hometown is prejudiced, Scout’s innocent mind remains non prejudice and caring of others. To her, all is equal, so therefore, should be treated equal. There is no doubt that Scout’s character is one whom is an individual, someone whom will stick to her own perspective no matter how cruel and racist other people can be. In her adult world, Scout learns to treat all people fairly with dignity and respect. Atticus is a small town lawyer who deals with a very tough case involving a black man and his rights. Although Atticus is a single father, he manages to teach his children right from wrong. He makes it a common practice to live his life as he would like his children to live theirs, and therefore displays the characteristics of an honest, respectable, and kind man. Atticus demonstrates his feelings for example, by showing the highest respect for everyone in Maycomb, regardless of their color or class. His serious defense for Tom Robinson, a black man accused of raping a white woman, proves his high ideals. Throughout the trial process, Atticus shows Jem and Scout that a true person is standing up for what you believe in, and all human beings, despite their race, deserve respect. Atticus not only shows his non prejudice ways through defending Tom Robinson, but also through his everyday dealings with C alpurnia, the cook. He refuses to fire Calpurnia despite Aunt Alexander’s wishes, showing the high value he puts on Calpurnia. Atticus even goes as far to say he considers Calpurnia as a faithful member of the family. By doing this, Atticus hopes to show Scout and Jem that he still treats Calpurnia as an equal, even though she is black. Through her everyday life, Scout is able to gain a sense of what it means to be courageous. In the beginning of the novel, Scout faces terrible encounters with her neighbor, Mrs. Dubose. Mrs. Dubose often shouted vicious comments and criticized the children as they passed, though they have tried in every way to treat her in the kindest manner. One day, however, after Mrs. Dubose’s comments got out of hand, Jem cuts off the tops of her camellias in a rage. Attticus finds out about it and orders him to apologize immediately. Unfortunately, for Jem, his punishment is to read to Mrs. Dubose for an hour each day for a month. Left with no cho ice, Jem gathers up his courage and heads to her house everyday after school. Being a faithful sister, Scout sticks to her brother’s side and makes the horrible trips with him. Shortly after the end of Jem’s punishment, the children find out that Mrs. Dubose had passed away from cancer. Atticus explains to the children that Mrs. Dubose acted in such a bitter manner because she was going through such pain, and not because of her intentions. As a result, Jem and Scout learn about death and they gain an understanding for the type of person Mrs. Dubose was and her views of life. When Scout and Jem first meet Dill, their daily adventures become more exciting. After hearing the gruesome tales of Boo Radley from Jem, Dill thinks up games about Boo. Although these games are simply for amusement, they later teach the children about respect and understanding. In the beginning, Boo represents the unknown. The children wonder about Boo and his strange way of life, but really have no idea of who he is. At one point, the children trespass the Radley property in hopes of finding some clue which will better explain Boo’s character. As the story progresses, Boo becomes more of a symbol of kindness and bravery than that of a freak, which he is thought to be. He leaves treasures for the children in the hollow trunk of a tree, and watches out for Jem and Scout whenever possible. In the end, Scout realizes that Boo is not a monster at all, but simply a person whom is misunderstood by the people of Maycomb. .ua21a1c8e9e761e5e154d1124211cb19f , .ua21a1c8e9e761e5e154d1124211cb19f .postImageUrl , .ua21a1c8e9e761e5e154d1124211cb19f .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ua21a1c8e9e761e5e154d1124211cb19f , .ua21a1c8e9e761e5e154d1124211cb19f:hover , .ua21a1c8e9e761e5e154d1124211cb19f:visited , .ua21a1c8e9e761e5e154d1124211cb19f:active { border:0!important; } .ua21a1c8e9e761e5e154d1124211cb19f .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ua21a1c8e9e761e5e154d1124211cb19f { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ua21a1c8e9e761e5e154d1124211cb19f:active , .ua21a1c8e9e761e5e154d1124211cb19f:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ua21a1c8e9e761e5e154d1124211cb19f .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ua21a1c8e9e761e5e154d1124211cb19f .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ua21a1c8e9e761e5e154d1124211cb19f .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ua21a1c8e9e761e5e154d1124211cb19f .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ua21a1c8e9e761e5e154d1124211cb19f:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ua21a1c8e9e761e5e154d1124211cb19f .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ua21a1c8e9e761e5e154d1124211cb19f .ua21a1c8e9e761e5e154d1124211cb19f-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ua21a1c8e9e761e5e154d1124211cb19f:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Julius Caesar4 EssayAt the end of the story, both Jem and Scout have better perspectives on racism and human dignity. They learn about prejudice, courage, and judging others. Though racism is a controversial matter in their town, Jem and Scout manage to dodge from other peoples’ ideas and secure their own. For example, throughout Tom Robinson’s trial, Jem and Scout keep their beliefs about his innocence. They saw him for who he was, not for the color of his skin. Later on, Scout also realizes that she was the same towards Boo Radley. When she first meets him, she learns how unfair she had been to him, believing all the horrible stories without actually knowin g him. Harper Lee’s timeless classic teaches a great lesson to many readers. She strongly emphasizes the rights and equality of all people. Many themes are contained in the novel, such as morality, innocence, and growing up. Her symbolism of the mockingbird in the book depicts people such as Boo Radley and Tom Robinson. These two people are discriminated against because of other peoples’ assumptions and negative viewpoints.

Leadership Styles in Nursing free essay sample

Managers with leadership styles that seek and value contributions from staff, promote a climate in which information is shared effectively, promote decision making at the staff nurse level, exert position power, and influence coordination of work to provide a milieu that maintains a stable cadre of nurses. This statement describes the large impact a leadership style can make on the work environment, and the morale of the team. In nursing history, several theories and leadership styles have been explored. This paper will discuss: the importance of leadership in nursing, the authoritarian and democratic leadership styles, how they can be implemented in practice, and how they can either help or hinder professional nursing practice. Review of Professional Nursing Literature The importance of leadership in nursing is continuing to present itself time and again, especially as technology improves, and healthcare changes and evolves. What is unique about leadership in nursing is that nurses as leaders have the ability to impact and improve practice (Curtis, De Vries Sheerin, 2011). We will write a custom essay sample on Leadership Styles in Nursing or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page In addition to leadership being an important component to the nurse’s role, leadership style also has been found to have a significant impact on nurse’s objective to remain on particular unit (Boyle, Bott, Hansen, Woods Taunton, 2009). The paper next describes two leadership styles that may be implemented in practice. The authoritarian leadership style has been compared with a dictatorship, meaning that one person has the authority over the employees. This type of leader is often the one in charge of making the plans for the whole group or unit, and the employees or subordinates are expected to carry out the plan according to that leader. Authoritarian leadership style promotes a one-sided conversation which can restrict the creative and leadership skills of the employees (Boyle, Bott, Hansen, Woods Taunton, 2009). Often times an authoritarian leader has full control of those around them, and believes to have complete authority to treat them as they want. An authoritarian leader would provide instructions without looking for inputs and superintend his or her nurses in a close manner. However, problems may arise if a nurse must wait for the managers decision or direction before taking action regarding a patient. Although the authoritarian leadership style can be viewed as undesirable, it has proved to be very efficient in emergent and stressful situations. One of the key benefits of authoritarian leadership is the fact that decision making becomes much more simple and fast, as the leader doesnt have to consult or convince anybody. Basically authoritarian leadership can work wonders for the organization when decision making has to be quick and during some crisis. In a democratic leadership style, the decision making process and overall responsibility among team members is shared. Decisions are made by the leader consulting each member of the team; therefore the outcome becomes a group effort. In the democratic leadership style, tasks are delegated to employees effectively, where the implementation is mostly in their hands. As opposed to the authoritarian leadership style, the democratic leader welcomes feedback from every team member. Team members are also encouraged to function as a leader in terms of decision-making and execution of decisions (VESTERINEN, ISOLA PAASIVAARA, 2009). The democratic leadership style enforces a work environment where everyone is allowed to contribute to the decision-making process. This not only gives a certain amount of importance and authority to the team members, but also makes them more responsible as the burden of executing the choices they have made rests on their own shoulder. Involving more members in the decision-making process enables the team to reach to best solution possible. The variety of viewpoints allows the team to deal with every challenge after analyzing each perspective, and provide solutions in the same manner. By allowing everyone to be a part of the process, this leadership style permits creativity. Since everyone is given equal opportunity, a conflict of interest is less likely when this leadership style is implemented. While this type of leadership style values the input of the entire staff, there may not always be time to form a majority opinion when a patients health, or life, depends on fast action. Application of Clinical Example It is appropriate to use the authoritarian leadership style only when decisions have to be made quickly, when theres no need for input, when team agreement isnt necessary for a successful outcome, or when the job to be done is routine and unskilled. This leadership style could be implemented into practice in situations such as a code, when a patient is crashing, or if a disaster had taken place. This type of leadership style would often be appropriate in an urgent care unit, but could likely be used in many areas of nursing where emergencies arise. A specific example of this could be: a middle-aged male enters the emergency room with moderate chest pain. As you begin performing your assessment on him, he suddenly grabs his chest and begins gasping for air. As you have him connected to the vitals monitor you observe that his blood pressure and oxygen saturation begin dropping. At this point the authoritarian leader would take charge and call for immediate assistance. The authoritarian leader would begin delegating tasks to the other nurses and assistive personnel such as: placing oxygen on the patient, and assessing for breath sounds and pulse, and level of consciousness. The staff would continue to carry out the plan of action according to the leader. This situation describes an appropriate scenario of when the authoritarian approach is necessary and beneficial. In an acute situation as this, there is no time to debate the decision-making process. There needs to be one leader who decides the plan of action, and the others need to follow. The authoritarian style versus the democratic style would likely same many lives in these types of scenarios. As the advantages of the authoritarian leadership style have been described is it clear how that style of leadership can benefit nursing practice. However, this type of leadership can also diminish nursing practice. Authoritarian leadership can be detrimental because it often does not allow for open communication and socialization. Employees working under an authoritarian leader may not feel heard, or that their input matters. This can lead to employee dissatisfaction and increased employee turnover (Curtis, De Vries Sheerin, 2011). Particular traits and characteristics that have been shown to enhance leadership rather than diminish it include: sincerity, self-confidence and motivation to manage (Curtis, De Vries Sheerin, 2011). In all professions especially nursing, it is important to create a work environment where employees feel valued and supported. Conclusion Leadership is vital in almost every aspect of life. From the field of education, to a corporate environment, to that of a hospital, and even in a household, the kind of leadership style that is prevalent defines the course of action for the members of the organization (Curtis, De Vries Sheerin, 2011). In the nursing profession several styles of leadership can be used, all having their own advantages and disadvantages. As discussed, in a time of crisis when quick decisions must be made, an authoritarian approach may be most useful. While when deciding the best strategies decrease the occurrence of nosocomial infections, a democratic leadership style may prove to have the most success. The key to enhancing the nursing profession may then therefore be not just finding right leadership style to use, but the appropriate time to use each style.

Stratasys Company

Stratasys Company Five Forces Analysis It is necessary to note that Stratasys captured the value due to the innovative nature of the product and services provided as well due to the company’s approach. Remarkably, innovation is the core value of the organization as it was launched after Scott Crump’s (the founder of Stratasys) attempt to make a toy for his child in his kitchen (Stratasys is shaping our world, 2015).Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Stratasys Company How Value is Captured specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More In 2014, the company’s revenue was almost $750 million and the full year earnings per share was around $2 (McGrath, 2015). It is possible to implement the five forces analysis to understand the way the company captured the value. Supplier Power One of the powers that can affect the company’s performance is the supplier power. Notably, companies try to create a chain of vendors who have the n ecessary capacity as well certification to provide high-quality components (Gibson, Rosen Stucker, 2014). As has been mentioned above, the company was launched after its founder patented the principal element in the process of 3D printing. FDM is the process utilized to produce 3D elements from 3D CAD files, which is easy and efficient. Notably, the company can obtain materials for the development of its products from a broad range of suppliers. Therefore, Stratasys can easily change suppliers, which happened in the 2000s (Nelson, 2004). Vertical integration played a significant role in the creation of the favorable position of the organization that is not dependent on particular suppliers. Several mergers and acquisitions that have been implemented throughout the history of the company contributed to its vertical integration (Stratasys is shaping our world, 2015). Buyer Power Buyer power is a significant factor that has an impact on the development of the company. Stratasys focuse s on the provision of its products and services to large enterprises in such sphere as industry and medical as well as scientific research (see fig. 1). It is noteworthy that the business provides its products and services in such spheres as aerospace, automotive, architecture, dental, commercial and consumer products prototyping, education, entertainment, defense, medical device prototyping (Stratasys is shaping our world, 2015). Therefore, the buyer has quite limited power over Stratasys as there are still many customers, and the company’s position is favorable in this respect as well. However, those are big companies that can afford to buy such expensive technologies. Making their products more affordable for smaller businesses and even households will enable the company to gain a leading position in the market. Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? Competitive Rivalry It is necessary to note that the market for 3D printing and additive technology is rapidly evolving. Thus, according to the recent report, the industry will grow up to $20 billion by 2020 (Srivatsan et al., 2015). It is also quite a competitive market as there are more than 60 companies worldwide providing â€Å"more than 66,000 professional-grade additive manufacturing systems for eight industrial sectors† (Srivatsan et al., 2015, p. 28). Nonetheless, Stratasys has been one of the leaders in the field, and it holds its position due to its efficient policy. The company has implemented a number of mergers and acquisitions. For instance, it merged with one of its competitors, Objet, and purchased another rival, MakerBot in the late 2000s (Sharma, 2013). This horizontal integration leads to the disappearance of serious competitors. It also strengthen s the company’s position in the market. Threat of Substitution The industry is quite new and, hence, the chances 3D technology can be substituted in the near future are quite slim. Importantly, although 3D printing is unlikely to replace 2D printing in the short- and even long-term perspective, the former will acquire more popularity in such spheres as architecture, entertainment, medical and scientific research and automotive industry. At the same time, there are new industries developing at a high pace. For instance, injection molding, CNC or laser cutting can be a serious threat to 3D printing (Lipson Kurman, 2013). Thus, CNC is associated with high accuracy and the use of the software employed in many companies (CAD and CAM). Laser cutting can also be more helpful than 3D printing in the development of many components. Development of components is automated and, therefore, highly efficient. Injection molding is a technology similar to 3D printing, and it has a significan t potential. These innovations enable people to optimize many processes (Handerson, 2004). The technologies are developing quite rapidly, and new applications are found. Therefore, Stratasys should take into account the threat associated with the innovations mentioned above. Otherwise, the organization can lose its leading position in the market. Threat of New Entry Clearly, like any developing market, the market of additive manufacture and 3D printing is characterized by the entrance of new players. There are high chances that new companies will enter the market and evolve into serious competitors (Srivatsan et al., 2015). Many smaller companies are unable to remain competitive due to the lack of the capital.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Stratasys Company How Value is Captured specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Therefore, they are often merged. However, in some cases, rivals of the company collaborate, which lead s to enhancement of their positions in the market (Eisenhardt Galunic, 2000). It is also important to note that availability of skilled labor force enables companies to operate more efficiently. More so, the technological development provides a variety of opportunities, and new players can enter the market (Eisenhardt Brown, 1999). The industry is expanding as researchers identify various applications of 3D printing (Bassoli, 2007). However, if the company continues its efficient policy of vertical and horizontal integration, it will be able to keep its leading position. Capturing the Value The brief analysis provided shows that the major elements of the company’s capturing the value have been innovation, acquisitions, and mergers. The company develops new products and services. It also aims at the development of technologies available to wider audiences. Acquiring smaller (but successful) enterprises as well as merging with serious competitors, Stratasys has managed to rem ain one of the leaders in the field. The company has improved its operations through vertical as well as horizontal integration. Stratasys is trying to acquire the necessary facilities to achieve maximum vertical integration. For instance, the organization acquired the company producing thermoplastic materials, Interfacial Solutions (Stratasys strengthens materials development capabilities, 2014). It is noteworthy that Interfacial Solutions had been the company’s partner for several years. Thus, Stratasys acknowledged the efficiency of the facility and the acquisition of assets of this company contributed to the vertical integration of the leader in the market. There are various other small companies that can enable Stratasys to complete its vertical integration (Tranchard Rojas, 2015). As far as mergers are concerned, there are a few options at the moment. However, the company can enter various collaborations with such giants as HP, Microsoft, Google. Such collaboration hel ps companies to use innovative technology and strategy and benefit from the use of new approaches (Tushman Smith, 2002). It also gained the reputation of the reliable and responsible organization, which leads to the development of proper relationships with the company’s partners. It is important to add that the vast majority of enterprises in the industry also focus on innovation, which is the key to success in 3D printing and additive manufacture (ASTM additive manufacturing standards, 2015).Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Thus, IBM and HP, some of the primary competitors of Stratasys, have developed similar technologies and they also make steps in horizontal integration. It is possible to assume that the winner of the race will be the company that is the most successful in these two areas. Development of new products and services, as well as the search for new implications, will enable companies to gain (or keep) the leading position in the market. Uniqueness and Complementary Assets Apparently, uniqueness has played the central role in the development of the company as well as the entire industry. As far as the industry is concerned, it is possible to note that people got used to the printing technology, and 3D printing turned out to be revolutionary. Importantly, it had various implications. Such industries as automotive, architecture and commercial goods development benefited from the development of additive manufacture most. The primary buyers of the technology are companies involved in the aeros pace industry and medical (especially dental) research (Srivatsan et al., 2015). The prototypes could be detailed, and the production was automatized. Now, 3D technology is used for manufacturing purposes as well. When it comes to the company, its uniqueness also had an enormous impact on its development. Thus, the creation of FDM ensured a significant competitive advantage. Stratasys could provide high-quality products and services that were gaining immense popularity. The use of 3D technology in medicine and innovative approach of Stratasys contributed to the uniqueness of the company (Rengier, 2010). Importantly, speed is another essential element that contributed to the development of the industry. Additive manufacture provides such advantages as the reduction of waste and energy consumption, decreased marketing time, just-in-time production and so on. There is no need to spend months developing prototypes as people are now able to create a prototype within hours. Apparently, th is makes their products’ cost-effectiveness significantly higher. Moreover, in many cases, companies do not need to look for producers of certain elements of their products as they are capable of developing these components utilizing 3D printers. The company can also be characterized by a number of complementary assets that ensured its growth. First, Stratasys earned the reputation of an innovative and reliable company during its early years. This status encouraged many companies to buy from this firm rather than from its competitors who were less famous or reliable (Nelson, 2004). Apart from that, the company has developed efficient distributional channels, which can be seen as another important complementary asset (Gibson et al., 2014). The Minnesota-based company provides its products and services worldwide, which makes it one of the leaders in the market. Furthermore, the complementary asset of the company is the provision of co-producing power to the consumer (Gibson et al., 2014). The technology provides a broad range of possibilities to users of 3D printers as they can create new shapes quite easily. It is also important to add that the company has online stores that enable customers to purchase products easily. Another important complementary asset is the compatibility of the technology with such software as Windows, Linux and so on. Conclusion In conclusion, it is possible to note that Stratasys has been a leader in the field of additive manufacture and 3D technology due to its focus on innovation and vertical as well as horizontal integration. Clearly, the company has to take into account various threats such as new entrants and empowerment of competitors. The organization provides high-quality products that are gaining more and more popularity. Stratasys also plans to develop more affordable 3D printers that will expand the market significantly. Write a 4 page based on the question provided - Essay Example Traditional dating was when a man asked a woman out several days prior to the day they were supposed to go dating if she was interested. The innovations made dating more casual that it was before. However, the question that bugs many people is; are hookups good or bad for women’s rights? According to England and Thomas, hook ups are when two people go out dancing, for movies and later on retire to a more private place for sexual encounters. Such encounters are aided with a lot of drinking (143). From the research that was carried out, more men enjoyed hookups than women did. The rates of satisfaction in women were low and many were not happy with their en counters. Many of the men hooked up with women that they had never seen before and in the morning, they could not remember their partners (144) Taking to perspective the fragile nature of the women emotions, it is then appropriate to say that hook ups are not in the best interests of the women. Many of the women leave the encounters emotionally bruised and the fact that they have not achieved the intended felling’s makes it more frustrating for women (147). As much as there is dating, hooking up or any other form of interaction people need to live together. This is what is called cohabitation; a living arrangement that is facilitated by agreement between two parties. Mostly this happens in members of the opposite sex. According to Casper and Bianch, the increase in heterosexual cohabitation has led to delayed marriages and an increase in divorce and caused one of the most significant changes in family life, as we have known it (153). It is believed that cohabitation had decreased the committed that is associated with marriage. Marriage used to be the foundation of sexual relations, living together among many other family related matters (153). Today people are joining up to live together without even being married. They are having children and even giving
